Compressor Break-In

Tonight we put on eyes and ears, and fired up the compressor for the first time. Not too noisy, but it makes it tough to give instructions. We let it run until the compressor cycled off for the first time, then we used the blow gun for 10 minutes. The compressor ran for quite a while, and got hot. This was expected. At the end of the night we drained, and replaced the oil to remove any initial break-in debris.

After that was done, we connected the impact wrench and gave it a test run. The first thing we tested it on was the lug nuts on the font passenger side tire. They came off pretty easily. Connor turned each one off, then hand threaded it back on and finally tightened it down with the impact wrench.
I think the impact wrench is going to go back, I need to do a bit more research on the one we have, but it just seems a little slow, and a bit weak. We had the air up to 90psi  on the regulator when the trigger was pulled, but I'm not sure it's cranking that hard. I'm thinking the one up at the local pawn might be a better wrench. I'm going to stop by on the way to work tomorrow and grab it. It's listed for $29, and is a solid unit. Since we now have the compressor, we can test it out within a day and return it if it's not going to do the job.

We tried to undo the crank pulley, but once again ran into trouble. This time, we could not fit the impact wrench in the engine compartment between the A/C radiator, and the pulley. So we spent the rest of the night removing the A/C radiator. Thankfully, the system was already disconnected, and we did not have to deal with Freon issues. The current plan with the A/C is to remove it, and replace it with a modern unit if and when Connor decides it's too hot to drive in August. That's probably a few years away at this point.
